The 2017 Ford F-150 is a light-duty pickup truck that offers seven hard-working trims. The RAM 1500 is also a truck that's designed for light-duty tasks. Available with five engines, the F-150 offers more options under the hood than the RAM 1500. This Ford truck also boasts class-leading technology, such as the Pro Trailer Backup Assist and a camera system that shows 360-degree views on a split screen.

Having a displacement of only 2.7 L, the Ford F-150's 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 engine produces 325 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. The 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine increases the rating to 375 hp and 470 lb-of torque. Installed in the Raptor edition, the high-output edition of this engine is rated at 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Designed with efficiency in mind, the 3.5 L Ti-VCT V6 engine yields just over 280 hp and slightly more than 250 lb-ft of torque. With the 5.0 L Ti-VCT V8 engine, you get just above 380 hp and nearly 390 lb-ft of torque. The RAM 1500's Pentastar V6 engine doesn't match the capabilities of the EcoBoost V6 engines. Even when equipped with the HEMI V8 engine or EcoDiesel V6 engine, this RAM doesn't offer as much torque as the F-150 model. When fitted with a 10-speed automatic transmission system, this Ford truck offers more dynamic handling than the RAM 1500, which comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Designed to facilitate gear hunting, the SelectShift and Progressive Range Select technology is integrated into the 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford F-150 has the Tow/Haul Mode that optimizes the powertrain for handling tough jobs. This versatile truck is capable of towing a conventional trailer that weighs more than 12,000 pounds. By contrast, the RAM 1500 is only strong enough to pull a trailer that weighs slightly more than 10,000 pounds. When properly equipped, the F-150 supports a maximum payload of just over 2,000 pounds. The RAM 1500 can't handle a payload of more than 1900 pounds. One of the most innovative features in this Ford truck is the Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which is controlled with a simple rotary knob. This feature also shows you a wide-angle view of an attached trailer and the surroundings. When it comes to the drivetrain, both models are available with 4x4 drive systems that are suitable for off-road driving.

More than a dozen standard color options are available for the Ford F-150. You can customize this model with Blue Jeans, Race Red, Green Gem, Bronze Fire or White Gold. There are only 10 production color choices available for the RAM 1500. However, some of the low volume paint options for this RAM include Hills Green, Robin Egg Blue and other unique finishes. By using aluminum alloy for the body, Ford's engineers have successfully reduced the F-150's total weight by nearly 700 pounds. This military-grade material is still strong enough to withstand heavy use and exposure to the weather elements. Additionally, the robust Raptor model is optimized to handle extreme conditions. Having a ground clearance of 11.5 inches, this trim rolls on the FOX Racing Shox that provide superb stability on rugged terrains.
