The 2017 Ford Fusion vs 2017 Honda Civic. What's Your Choice?

Serving Columbus, Westerville, and Gahanna, OH

Quite often, car shoppers start their search for a mid-size sedan or hatchback and end up settling for a compact instead. The reasons are many and include fuel efficiency, price tag, and technology features. One of the big selling points of today's compact sedans and hatchbacks is the inclusion of just a bit more than the bare essentials when it comes to safety systems and infotainment options.

However, buyers don't have to settle for a smaller vehicle that passengers find cramped. The 2017 Ford Fusion has received a total refreshing and now comes with more standard convenience amenities than ever before. One of the most popular compacts is the Honda Civic, but upon close inspection, one finds that choices for this model are a bit limited when it comes to engine options, user-friendly technology, and overall value. The 2017 Honda Civic is a nice compact, but for about the same price, buyers get slightly more with the mid-size Ford Fusion.

Engine and Powertrain

The 2017 Honda Civic comes with the choice of two different four-cylinder engines. The first is a 2.0L engine that produces 158 horsepower and is paired to either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission. The second is a turbocharged 1.5L engine that comes standard on the hatchback is an optional choice on the sedan or coupe. The horsepower output varies depending on the trim and body style chosen. This can get a bit confusing for the buyer. On the other hand, the 2017 Ford Fusion can be purchased with a standard 2.5L engine that makes a total of 175 horsepower, a 1.5L turbocharged engine that produces 181 horsepower, a turbocharged 2.0L engine that cranks out 240 horsepower, and on the V6 Sport version, a 2.7L turbocharged V6 engine that delivers a satisfying 325 horsepower. Buyers have the option of choosing one of the other three engines on all of the mid-level trims.

Advanced Technology

One of the complaints most often heard about the 2017 Honda Civic is it's frustrating screen interface and sensitive collision warning systems. The interface is sometimes slow to respond and can be distracting for the driver. The adaptive cruise control is also slow-responding. The 2017 Ford Fusion now comes with the highly acclaimed Sync 3 infotainment system, a welcome replacement of the old MyFord Touch. Audio and phone voice commands, Bluetooth, and smartphone app integration is standard even on the base trim. All of these systems are rapid-responding, and the screen display is one of the easiest to use in the entire industry.

Overall Value

These two vehicles cost about the same, but the larger-sized Ford Fusion offers more trunk space, a roomy cabin, and high-set front seats that allow for more rear-passenger comfort. The long list of standard features certainly helps out when it comes to trading in the vehicle or selling it to an interested buyer. The Honda Civic has a roomy interior that is more comfortable than most other vehicles in its compact segment, but it doesn't retain its value as well as the Fusion.

Before making a decision to go with a more compact vehicle, we suggest that you come on down to our dealership and test drive the new 2017 Ford Fusion. Its recent refreshing has allowed it to keep pace with some of the more expensive midsize sedans, and its overall value is perhaps a cut above the popular but smaller Honda Civic.
