Featuring a single turbocharger, the Ford Explorer's 2.3 L EcoBoost engine whips out 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Twin turbochargers help the 3.5 L EcoBoost V6 engine achieve a peak output of 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Even though it's not turbocharged, the Explorer's 3.5 L Ti-VCT V6 engine still has a solid rating of 290 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque. In the Edge, this six-cylinder engine produces up to 280 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, this crossover SUV is available with the 2.0 L EcoBoost engine and 2.7 L EcoBoost engine.

Both Ford models are equipped with the SelectShift automatic transmission system that offers six gear combinations. This patented transmission can be paired with the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) that maximizes traction. In the Explorer, this AWD is linked to the Terrain Management System. Installed in both vehicles, the AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control is another sophisticated technology that improves handling in challenging conditions. This signature installation comes with the Curve Control, which provides help with navigating meandering roads and winding ramps.

The Ford Explorer has a spacious interior layout that accommodates up to seven occupants. Linked to the PowerFold technology, the 50/50 split-folding bench seat in the third row can be easily adjusted with the touch of a button. The vehicle's second-row seats include the Power-Assist Fold function. Similarly, the Edge has second-row seats that come with the EasyFold technology. Both models also include the Dual-zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control.

In the digital technology department, the Explorer and Edge offer plenty of premium features such as the SYNC 3 infotainment system. GPS navigation software is included in this signature multimedia console that recognizes voice commands. SiriusXM service is accessible via the SYNC Connect suite. Delivering high-quality acoustics, a sound system by Sony keeps all of the passengers entertained.

The Ford Explorer is available with the Forward Collision Warning, which issues visible alerts in the head-up display. If you don't take immediate action to avoid a front crash, then the Brake Support will automatically decelerate the vehicle. Additionally, the car's Adaptive Cruise Control can lower the risk of a forward collision at fast speeds.

Using radar sensors to scan the surroundings, the Blind Spot Information System is installed in the Explorer and Edge. When it detects the possibility of a side collision, this technology activates blinking warnings in one of the side mirrors. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert is another accident-avoidance system that's available in both models. Parking these Ford vehicles should be easy thanks to the Enhanced Active Park Assist that's powered by multiple ultrasonic sensors. A rear view camera provides additional guidance for rolling in reverse. You can also rely on the front-facing camera with the Forward Sensing System to avoid bumping into other obstacles.
