The 2017 Ford Expedition XLT vs 2017 Ford Expedition Limited. What's Your Choice?

Serving Columbus, Westerville, and Gahanna, OH

Among the trim levels on the 2017 Ford Expedition, the XLT and Limited are both quite popular. How do they differ? Here’s a simple guide to get you started. You’ll also want to see these fine SUVs in person and determine which is best for your family.

2017 Ford Expedition Exterior

Ford sets the two trims apart in many ways. Black running boards become body-colored. The Limited has larger wheels and a bright chrome grille with thunderstorm-painted inner accents. Limited editions exchange the XLT’s Quad-beam reflector headlights for Halogen projector beam lights. The XLT’s black luggage rack side rails are switched to chrome for the Limited. The XLT side mirrors are power-adjusting and power-heated with security approach lamps. Limited editions add auto-dimming and memory features as well as a power-fold capability. The XLT has a liftgate with a handy flip-up glass window. Limited editions add a power liftgate. If you like the XLT’s magnetic-colored grille, that's part of the Limited Appearance Package. This also adds magnetic-colored wheels and mirror caps.

XLT editions have power-adjusting pedals with a memory-enabled power-adjusting driver’s seat. The center row reclines, slides and folds flat. Ambient lighting soothes children on dark nights. XLT entertainment standards include SiriusXM radio capability and Sync with audio streaming. Limited seats are covered with perforated leather. Riders can cool or heat the seats for greater comfort, and the second row seats can be power-heated as well. This model also adds a PowerFold third-row seat. Other trim standards include automatic temperature control, push button start and a remote starter. If you choose the Limited Appearance Package, Ford adds unique door switch plates and a special instrument panel finish. The Limited adds a touchscreen with enhanced voice recognition. It also boasts a premium Sony audio system. Navigation, HD radio, and SiriusXM Travel Link are optional on both trim levels. Another option is the dual headrest DVD system by INVISION.

Eight positions are standard in 160 cu.ft. of passenger space. Both trim editions allow you to choose center bucket seats, reducing seating to seven. Also, both trims let you choose the extra-long style. With that option, the 112-inch wheelbase is traded for a 131-inch wheelbase. This increases passenger space to 168 cu.ft. The class-leading cargo hold measures 42 cu.ft. and includes a standard cargo management system.

Performance and Safety

Regardless of trim level, the Expedition comes with a turbo V6. Acting more like a V8, this fuel efficient machine delivers 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but Intelligent four-wheel drive is a popular option. Low-range gearing is a hallmark of this 4x4. Regular Expeditions can tow up to 9,200 pounds. EL 4x4 editions can tow 9,100 pounds. Despite its powerful engine, the Expedition has safety covered. The SUV earned a five-star rating from the federal safety testers. A rearview camera is standard, and a blind zone system can be added for extra peace of mind.
